Making Name Labels For Orchids

Making Name Labels For Orchids
With spring peeping through the leaves, the need for repotting will present itself for some of your orchids. With repotting you will also be requiring new labels for the newly repotted orchids. Name labels are an important aspect of good orchid care.

These new labels can either be directly bought from stores or if you are penny-pinching, then you can make these yourself at home. There are numerous ideas available online. If you are planning to make the labels/name tags yourself, then both pricey as well as cheaper options are available as regards to material to be used for making the labels. You can have newly bought materials or better still recycled material can also be used. The new labels can be categorized under two headings short term and long-lasting ones. For d-i-y ideas of making labels you can search online.

i. There are numerous sites on Pinterest giving out free ideas about making labels.
ii. Many YouTube videos also provide different d-i-y ideas on this topic. Just type 'making new labels for plants' in the search box and you will get numerous videos about making name labels for your orchids.
iii. Your free to use your own creativity, but please also share your ideas here. While making these keep a few points in mind:
1. If the orchid does not require frequent repotting then the label used should be long lasting type.
2. The new label should be able to withstand constant watering without getting spoiled.
3. The name should be readable, avoid illegible writing.
4. It would be very nice if recycled stuff is used to make new labels.
5. Place the new labels in the containers where these are subject to least damage

It is important to labels your orchids, or you will face a situation that I am facing now. There are two orchids in my collection that were gifted but not with their names. I have a vague idea that one is a dendrobe and the other an Oncidium, but it is not helping and both of these have lost all their leaves despite my best efforts :( So always label even if you know their names by heart. If the name on the label becomes unreadable, you should replace it with a new one quickly, before you forget the name.
